Everything in this app that came from someone else is named here, with its licence and a link to the source. The app's About screen points to this page.

The Qur'anic text itself is reproduced unchanged. Where a source asks for a link, the link is here; where a source sets a condition, the condition is written out rather than summarised.

The Qur'anic text

• Tanzil Project — Uthmani text, version 1.1, from tanzil.net. Copied verbatim; the Tanzil notice block travels inside the app's asset file. Licence: copying and distributing verbatim copies is permitted, changing the text is not. Source: tanzil.net/download, licence text at tanzil.net/docs/Text_License.
• Sūrah names, numbering and transliteration — Tanzil quran-data.xml (CC BY).
• Page boundaries — the Medina (King Fahd) and Diyanet mushaf page tables are used as measured facts (which verse begins which page). No page image or calligraphic plate from either printing is reproduced.

Arabic typefaces

The full licence text of every face ships inside the app, beside the font file.

• Amiri Quran — Copyright 2010-2022 The Amiri Project Authors, github.com/aliftype/amiri. SIL Open Font License 1.1. The default face.
• Scheherazade New — Copyright (c) 1994-2026, SIL Global. SIL Open Font License 1.1; Reserved Font Names Scheherazade and SIL.
• Noto Naskh Arabic — The Noto Project Authors, github.com/notofonts/arabic. SIL Open Font License 1.1.
• KFGQPC Uthmanic Script HAFS, version 0.09 — this font is the property of the King Fahd Glorious Quran Printing Complex (Madinah) and may not be reproduced or modified without the Complex's express written approval. The file is shipped unmodified, it is never the default face, and the provenance notice travels with it inside the app. Source mirror: github.com/mustafa0x/qpc-fonts.

Latin typefaces

• Playfair Display and Inter — SIL Open Font License 1.1, from the Google Fonts project. The static weights are bundled with the app, so no font is fetched from a font server while you read.

Translations of the meaning

A translation is never the Qur'an; it is one person's reading of it. Each translation shown in the app carries its own name.

• English (bundled) — The Qur'ān, Saheeh International Translation, ed. A. B. al-Mehri, The Qur'an Project / Maktabah Booksellers and Publishers, Birmingham, 2010, ISBN 978-0-9548665-4-9. The edition states: no rights reserved — any part may be reproduced in any language … as long as no changes are made to the material and notification is sent to the Publisher. • Other languages (downloaded on demand) — translations published by the Tanzil Project, tanzil.net/trans. Tanzil states that the translations it provides are for non-commercial purposes only; for any other use, permission must be obtained from the translator or the publisher. Every pack keeps the source and terms in its own header.

Recitations

• EveryAyah.com — the verse-by-verse recordings of Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, Saud Al-Shuraim, Maher Al-Muaiqly, Abdullah Awad Al-Juhany, Yasser Al-Dossari and Ali Jaber, from the EveryAyah collection (everyayah.com), published under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial. The copyright in a recitation belongs to the reciter; the collection asks for a link back, which is given here and inside the app wherever a recitation plays.

Word-by-word meanings

• quran.com (Quran.Foundation) — the word-by-word glosses come from the quran.com API, quran.com. Offline packs are built from the same data.
• Machine translation — for languages quran.com does not serve word-by-word, the English glosses were translated once by a language model and packed per language. The app marks every card that used that table as a machine translation, so you always know what you are reading.

Word timing (the moving arrow)

• quran-align — Copyright (c) 2016 Collin Fair, Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. The first timing tables came from this project.
• Our own alignment — the tables shipped today were produced for this app with Meta's MMS forced aligner (torchaudio.pipelines.MMS_FA). The model is a tool only: nothing from it ships in the app, only the millisecond boundaries it measured.

The word study

The study behind each word — its meaning, context, derivational family, distinctions from near-synonyms, etymology, structure and morphology — is written for this app. It is not copied from a dictionary.

Each entry names the works it draws on, and short quotations appear with the name of their author: al-Rāghib al-Iṣfahānī (al-Mufradāt), Ibn Fāris (Maqāyīs al-Lugha), Ibn Manẓūr (Lisān al-ʿArab), al-Zamakhsharī (al-Kashshāf), al-Ṭabarī (Jāmiʿ al-Bayān), Ibn al-Jazarī (al-Nashr), Abū Hilāl al-ʿAskarī (al-Furūq al-Lughawiyya), al-Ṭāhir Ibn ʿĀshūr (al-Taḥrīr wa'l-Tanwīr) and others named in place. The classical works are in the public domain.

The Elif-Bâ reading course

• The letter and syllable sounds are synthesised speech (ElevenLabs), generated for this app. They have not yet been checked by a teacher; the app says so on the course screen.

Artwork

• The eighteen backgrounds, the navigation art and the app icon were generated for this app. No photograph of a real person or place is used, and no stock library image is included.

Software

The app is built with Flutter (BSD 3-Clause, Google). It uses these open-source packages: google_fonts, shared_preferences, intl, just_audio, path_provider, crypto, record, and the Firebase plugins firebase_core, firebase_auth and cloud_firestore. Each keeps its own licence, distributed with the app.
